On February 1, 2021 GVSU Libraries temporarily stopped borrowing books from other libraries via MeLCat as we change our search software.

How this impacts users:

  • Users who access MeLCat Books through the Library Search interface will be directed to Document Delivery.
  • Users may encounter a slightly longer wait for book delivery than that provided by MeLCat
  • Users who access MeLCat through the MeLCat interface will not be able to select GVSU as a delivery location.
  • MeLCat Users can still use MeLCat and pick their local public library as a pickup location.
  • Non-GVSU affiliates users will no longer be able to check out materials at GVSU University Libraries, including the Curriculum Materials Library. Alumni cards will still work for checking out materials.

How long will this last: To be determined. Our goal is to have MeLCat loaning back up sometime in 2023, but at this point no guaranteed timeline is in place.

Please share this information with your students if they may need to request titles for your upcoming courses or reach out to your liaison librarian to discuss alternatives such as open education resources or explore electronic availability of course texts.
