Beginning February 1st, 2021, GVSU University Libraries will temporarily stop borrowing and loaning books through MeLCat. This means non-GVSU affiliates will be unable to check out GVSU materials during that time.

Where and how to check out materials

You can check out materials by visiting any library service desk. Additionally, the Mary Idema Pew Library has a self checkout kiosk available near the service desk in case you would like to check out on your own.

Forgot your ID? We can still check a book out to you from one of the library service desks.

How long you can check something out

How long you can check something out from GVSU libraries depends on many factors: how you relate to the university, what sort of item you are looking to check out, and where the item is from.  You can check out our policies page in order to get a better sense of how long you can check any specific type of item.

How many items you can check out

For GVSU-owned materials, the number of items you can have checked out at once depends on your affiliation with GVSU:

  • Faculty, Staff, and Graduate Students: 100 items
  • Undergraduates and Retirees: 50 items
  • Alumni: 10 items

Need to borrow something GVSU doesn't own?

You can borrow items from other libraries around the world (through Document Delivery), and have them delivered right to your favorite GVSU library location, as long as it isn't a required course textbook.
