How do fines work at the GVSU libraries?

  • We do not charge accumulating overdue fines on materials. However, once the system marks the item as lost, a one-time replacement fee will be added to the account.

How much are the replacement fees?

  • There is a $100 fee for most unreturned items, such as books or journals. The fees for tech items vary, but non-returned laptops will be charged $600. Once the items are returned the fee will be waived.

Have a damaged item?

  • While some wear and tear is expected, severely damaged items will be charged for repair or replacement.

How do you pay the fee?

  • Fees can be paid at either the student services building or through your Banner account.

Concerns? Questions?

  • Outstanding fees will prevent you from checking out additional items and may affect your ability to register for classes or graduate.

  • Getting an overdue notice but sure you returned the book? Fill out our Claimed Returned Form

  • Have any questions about your account? Reach out to patronaccounts@gvsu.edu

  • Further information about fees and replacement costs is available on our policies page
